GET A SNACK AT 4AM

I’ve always been the kind of person who anthropomorphizes video game characters so I’m a bit of a sucker for narratives that go meta in that direction. The ending had a profound effect on me but ahhhh I don’t wanna explain myself too gayyy too gayyy. I liked it basically it was good :)

I didn't play this when it first came out or when it was like at it's peak popularity, but I think playing it now kinda made the message I personally picked up from this game more effective than if I had played it back then.

Time and time again people have compared Cashier to Florence, and I think they’re a bit different in a major way but I do see the vision and thus I am charmed by him.

BUTTER

By Asako Yuzuki

(Copied from a scrapped blogpost.)

Not a game, but it’s the book I’ve been reading. If you read my last entry, you might remember this book being mentioned at the end. I only just finished it this month!

Butter is about a journalist wanting to cover an article surrounding a serial killer who’s victims are all men she was due to marry. It’s got a lot of talk about food, the way women’s bodies are perceived, loneliness, and misogyny.

When I read what other people thought about Butter, they said that the middle felt a bit too slow, but my complaint with Butter is that the ending felt so fast!!

Despite the premise it’s not really a crime drama or horror or anything. It’s more psychological. I was really hooked I think it’d good. :)

PORTAL

(Copied from a scrapped blogpost.)

THE CAKE IS A LIE FAN FINALLY PLAYS PORTAL FOR THE FIRST TIME!!!!!

I don’t know what gave me the initial push, but I’ve been compelled to play Portal for a little while now. Learning how short the games are did help me get to it faster though.

I feel like I don’t need to explain Portal. I may as well have been the very last person on earth to play it. For the sake of talking though it’s a puzzle platformer by Valve that’s like older than like, most kids these days. You get a gun where you can shoot two points and when you enter one point you’ll come out of the other point you shot at. Not only is this the worst explanation of it, but it’s also something you probably already knew. It feels weird explaining this. I think we all know.

Anyhow, Portal has quite the reputation!! It’s pretty cemented into gaming pop culture. I used to own an Aperture Laboratories lanyard way back when because it was in a Lootcrate (remember Lootcrate. LMAO.) I used it for a while, but I’m pretty sure my mom took it because adults have more uses for lanyards than fourth graders do Well. Everything in Lootcrate was more suited towards adults rather than fourth graders, but I digress. and she never realized it was a nerd thing.

DREDGE

(Copied from a scrapped blogpost.)

DREDGE is a game where you fish and upgrade your boat and stuff!! I first picked up the game because GeminiTay’s Hermitcraft Season 10 base is inspired by it.

A lot of people describe DREDGE as a cozy fishing game and for the most part, yeah it is. I think it’s just because people aren’t easily scared, but DREDGE is technically also a bit of an environmental horror game. Like, you can’t shake off the feeling that there’s always something lurking below the water. It’s just as addictive as any other fishing game though!!

I really love DREDGE’s art direction and I can see why Gem used it as inspiration, it’s great. I love the art of all the fish I immediately bought the artbook after I finished the game. When my wrist gets better I really wanna try and see if I can recreate some of the fish drawings in it...

Something I will say is perfect about DREDGE, for me specifically, is that it’s scary, but it’s not that scary. Well, it is that scary to me, but you can easily brave through it.

For context, I have an unbelievably bad track record with horror games. I’m too scared to play any sort of horror, which also means I make my siblings pick the non-scary Roblox games and sometimes even that’s too much. If you want to know how bad it gets, I could not finish the first Nancy Drew game because it was too scary for me. The first Nancy Drew game has literally zero horror elements in it.

But yeah! I don’t know if I’ve gotten braver over the years, but even though I’m that sort of person, I was very easily able to get through the whole game. There’s always the option to turn off like all hostile scary elements in the game, but I kinda feel like that sort of defeats the purpose of the game and you could just play any other fishing game at that point...

It’s kind of like a very, very, very, very tame version of Giant’s Deep from Outer Wilds.

>(If you’re thinking to yourself “Given the rest of Outer Wilds, Giant’s Deep isn’t even that scary”, yeah... I know. To you and most normal people maybe lol.)

I think that if you’re trying to build up your tolerance to horror or just feeling scared in general, DREDGE is probably one of the best games to start with. Maybe not if you have extreme thalassophobia though... Nancy Drew might work out better for you than me.

MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS

My first Christie novel! Despite how popular this one is I never once was spoiled so the ending did surprise me.

PROJECT EDEN'S GARDEN - PROLOGUE & CHAPTER 1

Art Credit // Voice Credit

It’s actually crazy how likeable every character is for a Danganronpa related media, but then you remember these characters are written by probably normal people and not Kodaka.

VERY impressive fanganronpa I really enjoyed it.

My initial favorites are Diana and Toshiko, but I find every other character quite endearing in their own way.

CHAPTER 1 SPOILERS

DIANA WAS STRESSING ME TF OUT WITH HOW MANY DEATH FLAGS SHE WAS DROPPING LIKE GIRL . I’M TRYING TO FTE YOU but I’m super happy a character I liked was plot relevant because my faves usually are not. And that they aren’t gonna kill her. Right 😁

WILD LIFE

IT’S ABOUT FAMILY 💪💪

GREAT GOD GROVE

Fun little game :) My favorite god is tied between Inspekta and Cobigail. and my favorite NPC is Byoolah...
I'm the Bizzyboy with the cone on his head and also Bananathaniel.

PARKOUR CIVILIZATION

DO NOT read Umineko then watch The Truman Show and Parkour Civilization back to back it'll make you think.

THE TRUMAN SHOW

Guy who likes stories about boxes likes the story about the guy in a box.

UMINEKO WHEN THEY CRY

I'm going to be so honest I was not smart enough for this but god did I try.
On most occasions I feel like Ryukishi somehow picks the metaphor that will resonate with me the most . What was bro thinking...

VA-11 HALL-A: CYBERPUNK BARTENDER ACTION

I played it on my Vita.
Cute, chill game but you can really tell what year it was made because sometimes it feels like it was written by people who love anime for people who like anime but are very ashamed by that.
Also it's really funny that they canonically have the best selling game in universe be YIIK.

REVUE STARLIGHT EL DORADO

NanaMahi route changed lives.

GEKIJOUBAN SHOUJO☆KAGEKI REVUE STARLIGHT

At one point I watched all the revues everyday for a month straight.
BUT if you liked the anime this is a must watch cause it I think it ties everything together if you felt like it was a bit lacking.

SHOUJO☆KAGEKI REVUE STARLIGHT

I think if you really like movies and theater and creation you'd really like this and even if you don't I think the visual flare is enough to carry it cause it's so cool to stare at. Anyways you really gotta watch it it is, in my opinion, Bushiroad at its best.
They made theater kids look cool...

BANG DREAM! IT'S MYGO!!!!!

I haven't done anything Bandori related in a long long time, but I heard the MyGO anime was good and I was on a girl's band kick so I decided to watch it. I especially liked Sakiko. The characters are probably a lot more explored in the game, but I don't really wanna play.
I'm really looking forward to the Ave Mujica anime!!!!! I'm currently in a headspace where it could ruin me forever.

GIRLS BAND CRY

It's so stylish and funny I really enjoyed it AND THE CHARACTER DESIGNER is the same who does the TOKYO6 synths...
Rina's vocals are crazy good.

JELLYFISH CAN'T SWIM IN THE NIGHT

It was really good for most of it but it felt like it dropped the ball a bit at the end? Still fun watch though. Band animes about circles in particular are my favorite.
OH YEA SOMETIMES THERE'S LIKE WEIRD FANSERVICE? I don't know why they did that.

PARANORMASIGHT

SO FUN I liked the meta puzzles and the 360 camera it's so scary during tense scenes. It could have run a bit longer or tidied up some plotholes, but for what it is it's super good.
If anyone has more games like this an AI let me know.

AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES - NIRVANA INITIATIVE

I enjoyed it a lot, but I don't really like some of the writing choices they went with. I heard that they wanted to write it so that you didn't need to play the first game to enjoy this one and ya it really shows. Mizuki would NOT fucking say that.
I liked Ryuki and Tama a lot though!
